My Personal Favorite
For Home fans (I realize I'm speaking to a select few) 13: Netherregions (their second for Jetset) is the "acquired taste" album. My first listen to this gem was met with confusion and denial. It's not overly strange and immediately melodic like their previous releases, but after some time with the record, it starts to get under your skin. 13 is undoubtedly the band's most focused and cohesive effort, trapping cosmic light and the dark corners of the galaxy then spreading them over ten tracks of concentrated folk. "A Christmas to the Easter" and "The Pearls Hang Loosely" is Home aging perhaps, slow and reserved, letting atmosphere take over. Listen to my absolute favorite Home song,"Turn Away," and you may just trash your copy of Pink Floyd's Meddle. Doubtful, but it's damn close to that classic. Again, Home and Times New Viking, June 17th, Bourbon St. (Still looking for an opener, e-mail me if you're interested.)
