The Current and Final?
By naming thier albums in numeric sucession, Home hit the jackpot when finding a title for the sixteenth album, the brilliant Sexteen. Finally, the album Home has always wanted to make; perking up the pop sensors with a thread of songs pertaining to the cycle of nature, making love, and above all, fucking. This is a concept that could be lost, fuddled, and goofed in the wrong hands, but with Home's scalpel-like care, the subject matter (even when explicitly graphic, "Swallow Me Whole, Don't Let Go/Do you Wanna Feel My Fingers Inside of Your Hole") is dealt with lovingly. Home has always possessed a sincerety and quirkiness that blend well ("the balance between simple and luxe"), never getting too sentimental and never pushing the music into geeky oblivion. Sexteen is also the group's most collaborative batch, giving each member a chance to add to Home's unique ouvre. There's the "Sweet Jane" redux and bounce of "Juicy Ass," the xylophoned rush of "Teasing and Pleasing," and the raw punk anthem "Tim's Entry." I'm waiting patiently for this to become the late summer double vinyl extravaganza that the disc promises. Surely the bulk of the material played on this rare tour will be from Sexteen, so I'm encouraging you all to dive into this one unguarded.
Last time, cause it's tomorrow folks>>>Home, Times New Viking, and Psychedelic Horseshit, Saturday, June 17th. Cafe Bourbon Street. Please come, if only so I have the rep to do offbeat shows like this in the future. Thanks for listening. There's definitely a epilogue to this, so stay connected.
